Chimerate Race Guide
There are numerous different races on Edos, all looking so shockingly
different on the surface that an outsider might assume that they are different
species. This part of the information guide is to briefly describe
the species that have appeared in "Scrued" thus far. It's divided
up into subgroups to make it easier when this list gets lengthier.

Feline Based Chimerate Races
|
Hypsidian
(click picture for larger image)
|
Hypsidians originated in Lysia, though spread over Edos
thousands of years ago. The are one of the most successful of the
races. They have the basic look of a humanoid house cat, though their
ears are a bit on the large side. Males and females fall into the
same height range (about 5'2"-5'10"), and build, which is naturally on
the leaner side (they are never bulky, but can be surprisingly strong just
the same.). Since both sexes are equal, there tends to be an even
division of power in their societies. Their coats come in a wide
assortment of patterns (just about anything imaginable in house cats and
more), and any color imaginable. Ariel is an example of this race. |
|
Lyerval,
Jauktan Sub-race
(click picture for larger image)
|
One of the two sub-races of Lyervals; this one did not
share the same success, in fact it was the Coracadian Lyervals that essentially
wiped them out of existence. They possess traits from cheetahs, lions,
servals, lynx, house cat and an odd trait, perhaps corrupted from
a porcupine's quills. Their short fur was a strange, chartreuse color,
usually patterned in areas with brown strips and spots. The quill-like
hairs that spring out besides their ears are one of their most unique traits;
the "whiskerquills" appear to just be ornamental. Males were some
what larger than females, and both sexes were taller on average than most
other races in Edos (from about 5'9" to 6'9"), though they were very thin,
lacking the muscle power of the Coracadian Lyervals. However they made
up for that with great speed. They had been living a
semi-nomadic life on the Jauktan peninsula until the time of their eradication.
The last full blooded jauktan lyervals died off about 5,000 years ago,
though like the Florida panther, occasionally something with the same look
as one will spring up, so at the least some of their genes continue on
in a limited population. Scrue is an example of this race. |
|
Phoecat
(click picture for larger image)
|
Another one of the feline races of Edos, Phoecats are the
historic rivals of Hypsidians in their native territories, but the two
races seem to get along all right in areas that have been mixed for generations.
Their basically anthropomorphic Russian Blue house cats, but instead of
the typical feline tail they sport some sort of modified peacock tail.
Their base color is only ever cool grey (a bluish tinted grey, the most
common of their colors), or white or black. Their tail feathers,
exposed skin (such as in the ears), and the mark they bear on their foreheads
can be any color, though the eye spots on their tails are always a darker
version of this color. Males are some what larger than females, but
the race as a whole is fairly average in size (Males tend to be 5'8" and
females 5'4"). They have a good balance of strength and speed along
with the agility you would expect from a feline. Jehdas is an example
of this race (at least in appearances). Isis is a better example. |
|
Lyerval,
Coracadian Sub-race
(click picture for larger image)
|
The second of the two sub-races of Lyervals, the Coracadian
Lyervals are one of the most dominant of all races. They possess
traits from lions, servals, lynx, and a touch of house cat, and lack the
cheetah influence found in the Jauktans. They are short furred and
come in an assortment of colors, though their patterns are typically solid
with a few points on the ears or tail typically, though stripes and spots
are sometimes seen as well. They do no possess the whiskerquills
of the Jauktans. Males are larger than females, (from about 5'5"
to 6'9"), and tend to be built more for power than speed. About 5,000 years
ago they lead the assault that practically wiped the Jauktans out of existence.
It's not historically clear as to what their motives for this eradication
where, but it's become one of the hot topics of myth and legend.
This race has yet to appear in the comic. |

Voraet
(click picture for larger image)
|
Yes, another cat race, this time it's the feline answer
to the Cerberun. They are a mixture of the already similar lynx and
bobcat with the addition of a set of horns or antlers of a variety of designs.
Their color schemes tend to be more natural, varying from bluish silvers
to tans or oranges. Black varieties are also noted, with rare occurrences
of fantastically colored ones like greens or purples. The tend to
have markings of spots with stripes, usually of a darker color than their
base tone. Males are typically somewhat larger than females, but
the race as a whole is fairly average in size (Males tend to be 5'8" and
females 5'4"). They possess both the strength and speed of a typical
feline, but aren't the best at either of those fields. This race
has yet to appear in the comic. |
Canine Based Chimerate Races
|
Cerberun
(click picture for larger image)
|
Cerberun are one of the canine based races of Edos.
Though they are a moderately spread race, their tendency to group together
in neighborhoods of primarily their own kind can give them the appearance
of being as common as jerbits in some areas. They are an overall
bulkier group of people, and usually end up fairly tall and muscular, though
females are noticeably smaller. Their overall animal characteristics
are wolf/dog, and they can have the markings and coloration of either (though
things like Dalmatian spots are extremely rare). Unlike some of the
more vibrantly colored chimerate races, Cerberun are overall more drab.
Both males and females have a pair of horns on their foreheads, which can
vary greatly in style and size (though they are always horns, never anything
like antlers). Fenris is an example of this race. |
|
Anubin
(click picture for larger image)
|
Anubin are another one of Edos's canine races. A
combination of jackal, and several types of foxes, they possess lavish
markings and are always at least tri-colored. There vulpine and jackal
influence keeps them as an average sized race, with a tendency to a lithe
build. Females are slightly smaller than males, but the difference
isn't that drastic. Though they typically come in more natural colors,
those with more vibrant ones are not unheard of. They aren't a very
wildly spread race, and are found mostly in their homeland and diffused
among Alentuca's population mix. This race has yet to appear in the
comic. |
|
Thylapine
(click picture for larger image)
|
Though not truly canine, they have been grouped in the
canine family due to their similar body structure and overall look.
Sometimes classifications just boil down to convenience. In actuality,
they are a cross of tasmanian "wolf" and african porcupine. A fairly
athletic race, they are well known for their speed and surprising level
of strength. Males tend to be larger, and stronger than females,
but the ladies can still trounce on many of the other races if they had
to. Due to their marsupialian heritage, females have a pouch, though
since their offspring are not born prematurely it isn't of any use, aside
of maybe a sneaky place to hide their wallets. Though the quills
might look formidable, they aren't really that sharp, and unless the thylapine
is actively trying to pierce flesh, they wouldn't become imbedded in some
unfortunate sap. They populate a few counties around the world, though
are only really concentrated in a couple. Head gang guy from the
start of the third story is an example of this race. |
|
Marinquix
(click picture for larger image)
|
Marinquix are one of the top races of the colder climates.
Their thick fur keeps them well insulated from the cold, though it can
be a real hindrance in warmer climates (hence why few of them would consider
that tropical cruise.) Though basically an arctic fox, they have
some added fishy frills and are incredible swimmers. Though they
tend to be on the smaller side of things (and typically a bit stockier),
they have a natural water grace. Though their fur only varies from
about dark gray to white, their flukes and fins can come in a wide assortment
of colors and styles. Gang thug #3 is an example of this race. |
|
Squol
(click picture for larger image)
|
One of the stranger mixes among the chimerate canines is
the Squol. They are a mix of dhole and red squirrel, having the general
body shape of the former and the fluffy tail and tufted ears of the latter.
They tend to be on the average to slightly larger size, with an athletic
to stocky built. Females are a bit smaller and weaker than the males,
but both are fairly powerful. Nearly all of them are some mix of
hues of brown, tan or reddish orange. They aren't a very wildly spread
race, and are found mostly in their homeland and diffused among Alentuca's
population mix. Gang thug #2 is an example of this race. |
|
Fenna
(click picture for larger image)
|
On average they are the smallest of all chimerate canine,
with most members of this race being below average height and fairly physically
weak. They are a mixture of fennec fox and house cat (seen mainly
in their two tails), so it can be blamed on bad genes, I suppose.
They come in an assortment of colors, and have a slight range of markings
(most have the pattern of the one pictured however). To make up for
their petite sizes and lack of physical power they seem to have a natural
proficiency in their elemental usage. Though they are mainly found
in their home country, they've managed to sneak a few of their kind in
just about everywhere. I guess its easy to over look the midgets.
This race has yet to appear in the comic. |
|
Raxen
(click picture for larger image)
|
On another branch of the canine chimerates is the raxen.
They are a mix of raccoon and swift fox (a bit heavy on the raccoon).
This gene mix keeps them on the average to shorter side of the height spectrum
most of the time. Despite their size they are natural sprinters.
They are nearly always sandy to tan with darker brown markings, those with
funky rainbow colors nearly always have some mixed heritage. Their
marking patterns are also pretty standardized, though they vary in size
a bit between individuals, and a small portion of the population lacks
the masks. They share the same homeland as the kitzen, and the two
races have peacefully cohabitated for as long as history's written.
Besides Alentuca, they are not found much out of their native lands.
The Second Dead Guy was a member of this race. |
|
Kitzen
(click picture for larger image)
|
Kitzens are one of the more favored races of chimerates.
They really aren't a mix of anything, but rather multi-tailed red fox people.
Nearly every race, no matter how different their standards of beauty are,
can see the attraction to these sleek and stylish people. They're
the ones that land the big movie contracts, with their genetic disposition
to a lean and graceful body with all those pretty tails and elegant markings.
As far as coloration goes, they come in the typical foxy colors nearly
exclusively, but occasionally the odd pink or blue one does pop up.
The gene pool can throw you a wild card after all. Historically they
shared the same range as the raxen, but fate has been kind to their population
outburst and they can be found just about anywhere. Yes folks, this
is June's race. |
Rodent Based Chimerate Races
|
Jerbit
(click picture for larger image)
|
Jerbits are another extremely widely spread race.
They seem to be found in nearly any environment. Blame it on their
drive to have large families, which might just be rooted in their hare
and jerboa genes. Their big feet pack a lot of spring in them, making
them naturals in track and field sports. You'll always find jerbits
on olympic summer games teams. Their coloration vary based
on the element type they fall under. They are pretty average in size
and build, with the males being slightly bigger than females. The
dead guy on Page 1 is an example of this race. |
|
Raffen
(click picture for larger image)
|
The second race of rodents is the raffens. As is
typical of rodent races they're fairly widespread, migrating far from their
native lands. They are a mixture of rat, mouse and chinchilla.
They don't excel in any field, and sort of get lost amongst the more outstanding
breeds. However, you can never really trust the quiet ones, maybe
someday if their numbers outrank all the others they'll usurp power by
masses alone. Their colorations come in a lot of variety as well
as in an assortment of patterns found in pet rats. They are pretty
average in size and build, with the males being slightly bigger than females.
This race has yet to appear in the comic. |
Insectivore Based Chimerate Races
|
Chucabris
(click picture for larger image)
|
Chucabris are one of the freakier of chimerate races. They
are basically a horrifying mix of bat and echidna (all you Sonic fans out
there had better fear Knuckles and Rouge's potential offspring now).
They can be surprisingly powerful They even have natural weapons
in their quills and long claws. There are no race specific gender
differences, just the basic ones really. Most other races tend to
avoid chucabris (they could only ever hope to be cast as a villain!).
So are they just inclined to evil or has society made them that way?
The secret will probably stay within their group, as no outsiders really
want to go ask. Cierce is an example of this race. |
Insect Based Chimerate Races
|
Herant
(click picture for larger image)
|
Finally I list a chimerate with some non-mammalian heritage!
Herants are one of the insect based chimerate races which puts them at
the bottom of the racial hierarchy under most of the popular racist viewpoints.
It just doesn't pay to be a bug, but yet they aren't truly that... as they
quite flagrantly reveal that their insect features are just cosmetic.
Unlike true insects, their bodies aren't covered in an exoskeleton, and
they have the proper amount of internal bones. However, their body
texture varies from normal (although hairless) human skin on their heads,
front torso, upper arm, upper leg, hands and feet to a hard, but flexible
"shell" which covers their lower arm and leg as well as their back.
Underneath the shell on their backs (which contours to the body shape and
is usually not that noticeable, are a set of wings, which are utterly good
for nothing. They are a mix of horned beetle and ant. Males
always have a two pronged horn, where as females have a less impressive
looking single horn. The only place where hair tends to grown is
on their heads. Of average size, they possess highly impressive natural
strength (with males even more so than females). They aren't found
in too many regions, but still do all right for themselves. This
race has yet to appear in the comic. |
Reptilian Based Chimerate Races
|
Mantiraptor
(click picture for larger image)
|
Mantiraptors are one of the reptilian races of chimerates.
Their genes are a mixture of an assortment of monitor lizards and perhaps,
some dinosaur genes (or the result of de-evolving a chicken... I hear it
would be about the same). They also have a strange set of insectoid wings,
which seem to serve little function. They tend to rely on physical
power and have little in the way of elemental abilities. However,
they have quite dangerous natural weapons in their claws and fists alone.
Their colorations are usually in the green spectrum, and they occasionally
have a few stripes, but tend not to be an overly fancy race. Males
have a strength and size advantage over females. Velox, our TV guest
star is an example of this race. |
|
Midgalisk
(click picture for larger image)
|
Another reptilian race of chimerates is the midgalisks.
They are the major serpentine influenced race, mixing some of the the most
vicious traits of an assortment of snakes. They possess traits from
cobras, rattlers, vipers and a few hints of constrictor for good measure.
Their bite can be poisonous, and occasionally even lethal, though they
are immune to their own venom and also seem to have some control over its
potency. Their colorations can be quite flashy, even high contrast
at times to express their toxic nature. In their morphic expression
their human genetic nature gives them the normal set of limbs, as well
as some fierce looking reptilian claws. With such fantastic natural
defensive and offensive potential, their elemental skills tend to be more
poorly developed. Unlike most races, it's the females of this group
that tend to be a bit larger then their male counterparts, though both
are of equal strength. Their height ranges from average to taller
than average. This race has yet to appear in the comic. |
